Abstract

In the present case, we report the association of multiple ileal neuroendocrine tumors and idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins, 2 rare conditions that could have an etiopathogenetic relationship. Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of mesenteric veins implies a near-total obliteration of venular vessels, which can lead to hypoxic disorders. Hypoxia in tumors is associated with increased metastatic potential and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Herein we speculated on the existence of a relationship between hypoxia and multiple location of neuroendocrine tumors.<br /> (© The Author(s) 2016.)
