Abstract

Superheated perfluorocarbon nano-droplets exhibit promise as sensitive acoustic biosensors. Aggregation of biotin-decorated lipid-shelled droplets by streptavidin greatly increases the yield of bubbles formed by ultrasound-induced vaporization. Streptavidin is sensed down to 1 × 10(-13) m, with differentiable signal appearing in as little as two minutes, using a scalable assay without washing, processing, or development steps.<br /> (© 2015 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
