Abstract

The prevalence of itch is higher in individuals with darker skin types. In this paper, we review the systems involved in the physiology of itch and how they may differ across the races. Current data point out that the differences may be explained by barrier function, mast cell physiology, and itch receptor polymorphisms.<br /> (© 2012 The International Society of Dermatology.)
