Abstract
- Obesity is an important public health issue due to its steady increase in the prevalence and the cost of treatment of its complications. Both genetic and environmental factors exert their influence on energy consumption and energy expenditure. The pathogenesis of obesity is complex and not fully understood. One of the mechanisms leading to its development may be disturbances in motor and transport function of the digestive tract. The present paper is a review of the literature concerning connections between function of the digestive tract and the development of obesity.
