Abstract: Cohorting of patients with culture-positive tuberculosis is still widely practiced in Austria, a country where approximately 1% of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates are multidrug resistant. Cohorting of patients with tuberculosis prior to determination of drug susceptibility is unacceptable because M. tuberculosis superinfection can occur.
