Abstract
- The pathogenesis and treatment of heterotopic ossification still remains controversial. According to clinical study 164 patients after total hip replacement and review the recent literature the new hypothesis was established. This study showed that probably, heterotopic ossification of muscles is triggered by ischemia/reperfusion injury at the time of surgery procedure. That assumption was established on the base of causalities between ectopic bone formation and disturbances of connective tissue oxygenation observed at clinical trial and mentioned in the study.
