Abstract
- A biography is presented for American publisher Joseph Hamblen Sears. He was born in Boston in 1865 to ship captain and merchant J. Henry Sears, was educated at Roxbury Latin School and Harvard University. In 1891 he married Anna Wentworth Caldwell. He was an author of two non-fictional books and entered the literary world working for various magazines including Harper’s Weekly. He was a publisher at Harper & Brothers, and then became president of publishing house Appleton, retiring in 1919. He later started his own printing company J.H. Sears & Co from 1922 until 1934. He died in 1946.
