Abstract
- The article discusses the 1593 shipwreck of the ship "Santo Alberto" off the coast of South Africa and provides an English language translation of the 1597 historical source document written by the Portuguese Cosmographer Royal João Baptista Lavanha regarding the shipwreck and travel through Southern Africa to the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. The Viceroy of Portuguese India Matias D'Albuquerque's commissioning of Baptista Lavanha to provide a report on the shipwreck is discussed.
