Abstract

The article evaluates the effectiveness of spironolactone for the treatment of heart failure in patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction. Topics covered include the reduced hypokalemia and increase in serum creatinine levels and the rate of hyperkalemia associated with spironolactone treatment and the conclusion that spironolactone treatment did not significantly reduce the primary composite outcome of death from cardiovascular causes.
