Abstract
- The article discusses the role of transport infrastructure systems in energy transitions, with a particular focus on the advent of coal, oil, and electricity in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region during the 19th and early 20th centuries. According to the author, canals, pipelines, and wires played a significant role in the advent and the continuation of these practices. Emphasis is given to the social and economic aspects of transportation systems. Other topics include capital and consumer demand.
