Abstract
- Quantitative measurement is an effective technique to improve the services in the field of Library and Information Science. It provides a framework to the Library professionals to practice new concepts of quantitative forms in the area of Library and Information Science. This paper highlights the measurement practices adopted in the Special Library of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in a form of case study. It examines how a traditional library is switching over to a modem library extending benefits of research and information to students, scholars and professionals. Facilitation to the visitors and rapid access to information are the basic pillars of new strategy. Quantitative monthly progress reports as main measuring instruments cover areas of journals received, newspapers received, library visitors, internet/digital library users, visitors helped, acquisition and issuing of books, books/journals shelved, photocopies arranged for users, PhD theses received, digitized and processed for shifting and reference services. In addition to that, readers and visitors are provided spacious environment to consult books, journals, research reports, HEC's monographs, manuals, annual reports and theses of different universities. This quantitative measurement of library services serves as the mirror of performance for the library management. They review and analyze this measurement to improve the library services continuously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
