Abstract

An interview is presented with the Appalachian poet and former Catholic high school teacher Richard Hague. He discusses the role that working industrial jobs in the summer played in preparing him to become a poet. When asked about the motivation to the publication of his book "During the Recent Extinctions: New and Selected Poems 1984-2012," he comments on his aging. He comments on the use of formalism in his poetry, including in regard to his poem "Mr. Ealy Fishback.”
