INVESTIGAÇÃO DE IDADE E DIMORFISMO SEXUAL POR MEIO DE ANÁLISES ANTROPOMÉTRICAS EM TELERRADIOGRAFIAS E RADIOGRAFIAS PANORÂMICAS.

The processes of human identification require the research for methodological alternatives that may assist in anthropological studies. In this context, the analysis of image documents can bring valuable contribution. This study aimed to investigate the estimation of age and sexual dimorphism in radiographs and panoramic radiographs. The documentary, transverse, and quantitative approach was developed with 145 orthodontic files. Analyses for age considered dental maturity with reference standard, ramus height and angle of the mandible. The results showed low correlation of canine elements, first and second premolar and second molar of all hemi-arcades of the reference standard with the radiographic measurements of the study teeth. The age estimation for the mandibular angle and ramus height proved to be viable for a range of 14 to 21 years old. The genus was estimated at 21 years old for the mandibular angle and the branch height showed no contribution to sexual dimorphism. We conclude that the age estimation showed the best chances of research in relation to dimorphism, considering the characteristics of the material evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
