Abstract
- Wheat, conservation-grade oats and potatoes are main crops on the 220ha of clay loam arable land of John Best farms in England. Backward crops of both wheat and oats have been top dressed with 38kg/ha of liquid N, but, in this unexpected dry spell, calcium nitrate would have been a better choice. Victor spring beans have been drilled at 300kg/ha with a target plant population of 40 plants/sq m and 2 litres/ha of simazine applied pre-emergence.
