- The article discusses a report from the U.S. Labor Department on unemployment and job creation for September 2014. A net 248,000 new jobs were created in the U.S. as the unemployment rate fell to 5.9%. The labor-force participation rate declined to a 30-year low of 62.7%. Private-sector workers saw their average hourly wage retreat by $0.01.
