Because railway-induced vibrations are considered as a growing problem, the development of new mitigation measures becomes more and more important. Therefore, extensive experimental investigations were planned within the project RIVAS to detect mitigation-measure efficiencies. Because the efficiency depends on the ambient conditions and measurements were to be performed in different European countries with a wide variety of conditions, commonly-agreed procedures to detect and transfer efficiencies had to be developed first. In order to find the most suitable measure for a given problematic situation, an assessment procedure considering the reduction of the annoyance and the costs was proposed in addition.
