Abstract

The article reports on the threats of the population of guanaco in Chile. It states that while the South American camelid native is not threatened with extinction on a continental level, but the threats of land degradation, rampant hunting and poaching will reduce their number in areas that make their historical distribution range. Conservation scientist Meredith Root-Bernstein claims that the guanacos are important missing species that assume significant ecological role.
