Abstract
- The article discusses strong demand on the part of hedge funds and other investors for exposure to cocoa, coffee, and cattle. Unlike many metals and agricultural commodities, these have not endured sharp price declines in 2014, and the time-consuming nature of producing more product protects them against rapid supply increases. During 2014 futures prices for arabica coffee, cocoa, and live cattle have risen 65%, 23%, and 16%, respectively.
