Abstract
- The article highlights the efforts of five people of different nationalities to help people whose lives have been endangered because of the armed conflicts that took place during the Japanese occupation of China during World War II. For instance, German businessman John H.D. Rabe sheltered war victims fleeing the carnage resulting from the Nanjing Massacre in 1937, while French doctor Jean Augustin Bussiere risked his life to supply medicines for Chinese guerilla forces in Hebei Province.
