Abstract
- The article discusses the record number of gubernatorial elections to be held in Russia for 2014. Topics discussed include the restoration of gubernatorial elections in Russia following the Duma elections, participation of minor parties in the election as dummies, and the distinction between electorate that are loyal to the authorities and the protest-minded electorate. It also discusses the proposal of Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to reinstate direct elections of region heads.
