Abstract

The article discusses the use and complexity of military strategic-level ethics, or macro-ethics, in tactical decision making, referencing U.S. military history from World War II through 2014. The ethical aspects of the U.S.'s use of atomic bombs against Japan during World War II in August 1945 are discussed. The macro-ethics regarding the U.S.'s conducing of drone warfare, including in regard to the contention that it dehumanizes the enemy and creates more terrorism, are also discussed.
