Abstract
- An essay is presented which discusses the 18th century English empirical philosopher's perspective on fiction, including in regard to truth in literature. The concept that is referred to as literary cognitivism, or the idea that fiction can be a source of knowledge, is discussed. The article often references Hume's philosophy books, including "A Treatise of Human Nature" and "An Enquiry concerning the Principles of Morals."
