A Coluna do Castello: da instabilidade política à repressão do AI-5.

Published at Jornal do Brasil from 1963 to 1993, Coluna do Castello is the journalistic column of greater longevity in the domestic press. At the column, the journalist Carlos Castello Branco used to post informative reports, analyzes and predictions on the directions of the national politics. Based on content analysis and the theory of journalistic genres and historical perspectives, this paper studies the texts published at Coluna do Castello in the early stage of the military dictatorship in Brazil (1963-1967), including the preparation and the coup d'etat of 1964, and the phase of stronger repression against the press (1968-1973) as the Institutional Act No. 5 was enacted.
