Abstract

Proposes a mechanism for prioritizing the selection of new events, called visual marking. Demonstration of the basic gap effect; Measurement of the time interval needed between the sets of distractors to produce the gap effect; Discussion of relations between marking and other accounts of visual selection and potential neurophysiological mechanisms.
