Abstract
- The article presents the author's investigations about the etymology of slang words in the English language. The collegiate slang term "frosh," referring to freshmen, is highlighted. The author challenges common conceptions that it is simply a truncation of the word, and presents various linguistic theories on the German derivation of the term.
