Presents information from a study which utilized conditioned barpress suppression to examine the effects of qualitative changes in the unconditioned stimulus (US) between phases one and two of a behavioral blocking paradigm. Description of how the experiments were carried out; Importance of cue-competition effects; Feature shared by almost all reported examples of blocking and theories of blocking; Discussion of the experiments' findings.
