Abstract

Highlights: [•] Bovine theca cells of ovarian follicles expressed peptidoglycan (PGN) receptors. [•] PGN suppressed progesterone and androstenedione (A4) production in theca cells. [•] The inhibitory effect of PGN was observed both in pre- and post-selection follicles. [•] A combination of PGN with lipopolysaccharide additively suppressed A4 production.
