Abstract
- The article discusses social aspects of membership retention among with religions that maintain strict doctrines, focusing on U.S. religious denominations. Topics include the impact of high fertility and pronatalist doctrines on the growth of religious movements, the impact of support from a religious community on retention of religious converts, and exit costs for members. Groups addressed include Mormons (Latter Day Saints Church, LDS), the Amish, and Ultra-Orthodox Jews.
