The meetings of the Shanghai Five founded with the propouse of define borders between countries of Central Asia, China and Russia, before collapse of the USSR evaluated into Shanghai Cooperation Organization in June 2001. Today the organization consists of six members (China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan) and four observers (Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan and India). The paper will describe the history of organization, its goals and critically examine the changes introduced in geopolitics of Central Asia by the organization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
