Primary tumours of the mediastinum make up a diverse group of neoplastic and benign disorders. Diagnosis is based on tumour characterisation according to medical imaging and the mediastinal compartment in which it is located. Diagnostic workup is therefore based on a rigorous multidisciplinary approach that involves imaging, biological and, occasionally, surgical techniques.
