Abstract

The article reports on the sale of a rare 1776 silver dollar minted by the U.S. Continental Congress and a 1792 experimental penny with a silver center for $1.41 million apiece at an auction in New York in May 2014. It states that the coins came from the collection of Eric P. Newman with four sales of coins totaling $44 million by Dallas, Texas-based auction house Heritage Auctioneers & Galleries Inc. Newman will use the proceeds to promote the study of coins and popularizing the hobby.
