The article discusses the joint mission of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) during 2013, including in regard to stationing their respective peacekeeping forces in Somalia. The joint mission's role in supporting the government of Somalia, including in regard to assisting it in recapturing Somalian regions under control of the terrorist organization Al Shabaab and aiding in the country's security, is discussed.
