Abstract
- The article focuses on the epidemics and colonial responses to sleeping sickness in East and Central Africa from 1900 to 1940. It states that the outbreak of the disease was associated to the epizootic of rinderpest introduced in Africa with the Italian invasion of Eritrea in 1889. It says that atoxyl has been tested against the disease by Ayres Kopke in Lisbon, Portugal and by Robert Koch in Uganda.
