Abstract

The article discusses the creation story in the book of Genesis from a scientific view. It argues that the creation of the universe was portrayed in six days for homiletic reasons, as a reminder to the Hebrew people of their obligation to rest and worship on the Sabbath. However, using Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, it also sought to reconcile how six calendar days of creation can be equal to the 15 billion years estimated age of the universe based on the concept of time dilation.
