Abstract

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious chronic disease that affects humans and animals. Kidney changes is characterized by interstitial nephritis and glomerulonephritis (GN). There is evidence that inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1B, IL-4, may be involved in the pathogenesis of GN (MAIN et al. 1992). This study used BALB/c mice infected with amastigotes of L. chagasi in order to evaluate cytokines (IL-1B and IL-4) in the renal lesions . The results suggest that the cytokines IL-4 and IL-1B participate in the modulation of the immune response of the LV experimental glomerulonephritis in a murine model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
