Abstract

Every year a substantial proportion of deaths in India occur due to burn injuries. Burn deaths are a major public health problem in our country. Prolonged morbidity and disability due to burns results in economic loss to the individual's family, the society and the state. The present retrospective study was carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Government Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh during the period from 1st January 2011 to 31st July 2013 and includes a total of 381 cases of death due to burn injuries, brought to the mortuary of the hospital for medico-legal postmortem examination. The objective of the study was to understand various demographic aspects of deaths due to burns so as to suggest some remedial measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
