A demand on lower energy consumption and low emissions resulted in the application of regenerative burner technology in forging furnaces. Regenerative burners installed in side walls and burning above the charge have been used many times, especially in large furnaces. Meanwhile regenerative burners with flat flame are increasingly used in forging furnaces. They are installed analogous to conventional burners in the side walls and enable substantial energy savings, compared with the system with a central recuperator.
