Abstract

The article discusses prosecutions and the reportedly unfulfilled promise of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and rape-trauma syndrome (RTS) evidence in the U.S. as of July 2014, focusing on the claim that many courts limit the admissibility of syndrome evidence. A comparison is provided of the offensive and defensive uses of syndrome-related evidence. It states that syndrome evidence generally appears as expert testimony in the form of a qualified mental-health professional's opinion.
