Abstract

The article focuses on a meeting of some of the powerbrokers of Russian Federation in Moscow, where they proceeded to establish a new political party. On paper the new party, with parliamentary elections due in December 1995, is better placed than any other to offer continuity. It is supported by 40 members of the government, many leading banks and companies, and representatives from the local governments of 80 regions. The new party lacks many things, most obviously a charismatic leader. The problem for voters who like reform is the lack of alternatives.
