Abstract: The article explores the case of a 28-year-old military veteran, a married father of two who presented with insomnia and nightmares at the emergency department. Topics discussed include the history of the patient that could possibly land on a diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the criterias for diagnosis of PTSD according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the best initial intervention for this case.
