Abstract

The effect of uniaxial stress on the electronic 3T1(F) → 3T2(F) transitions of Ni2+ in ZnO at 4216, 4240, and 4247 cm-1 is investigated by means of Fourier transform IR absorption spectroscopy. A stress Hamiltonian is constructed which accounts for the behavior of these transitions under uniaxial stress. It is shown that the split pattern and polarization properties of these IR absorption lines are consistent with a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect in the 3T2(F) state of Ni. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
