Abstract

Child and Youth Care [CYC] practitioners whose primary practice environment is supporting the education of Child and Youth Care practitioners met at World Conference in Newfoundland and Labrador June 2013. During a round table discussion they shared challenges and solutions from individual contexts that were validated as common across degree and diploma level and in various geographic contexts. It is clear that the complexity of preparing CYC practitioners within an educational environment requires strong advocacy skills, a grounding in CYC theory and practice, as well as a solid understanding of educational theory. The continued evolution of a pedagogical paradigm that supports CYC practice in this sector is essential for the continued development of the CYC profession -- and for quality service to youth and families.
