The article considers finance and economic conditions in emerging markets. Increases in interest rates by central banks of Turkey, India and South Africa in January 2014 to maintain the valuations of their national currencies are discussed in relationship to overall declines in currency valuations and economic conditions in developing countries due to global increases in interest rates in reaction to 2013 changes in U.S. Federal Reserve Board monetary policy.
