PERFIS DE CARMEN MIRANDA, SUA IMAGEM E PERFORMANCE COMO LINGUAGEM NA MODERNIDADE.

Based on the considerations of Reinhard Koselleck, which characterizes modernity through the speed that the meanings of the concepts change, the same may be applied to objects and characters of history, such as Carmen Miranda. The different meanings that one may attribute to Carmen throughout her career and the various languages in which she was represented, turns the artist into an expression of modernity. In this paper we investigate the meanings attributed to Carmen at two moments of her career, through the magazines Cinearte and Scena Muda, the newspaper The New York Times and her films produced between 1940 and 1945. In conclusion, you can see three different approaches to Carmen Miranda, which unfold into a symbol of Brazilian identity, modernity and Latinity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
