European airlines end talks.

Says that four European airlines--Swissair, Scandinavian Airline Systems, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Austrian Airlines--called off merger talks, citing irreconcilable differences over what strategy to adopt in the United States. They had sought to establish a jointly owned company to integrate their routes, eliminate overlapping sales force and become more competitive in an increasingly difficult global airline market.
