Abstract

The article argues that U.S. higher education institutions should not allow tuition remission, which is a benefit given to faculty and other employees that allows their children to attend school for free. Topics discussed include increases in tuition costs at U.S. colleges, a proposed progressive tuition reimbursement system, and a 2005 review of the U.S. federal tax code by a Congressional committee that called for the taxing of tuition benefits.
