Abstract

In this Study, ethanol and canola oil biodiesel blends with diesel fuel as an alternative of fossil fuels, were tested on a tractor engine with a direct diesel injection system to obtain variations of engine performance characteristics for different mixture rates at full load condition. Each mixture with volumetric ratios of 5% (B5 or E 5), 10% (B10 or E10) and 15% (B15 or E15) was tested and compared to reference diesel fuel (R). Then performance data as engine torque, effective power, brake specific fuel consumption and effective efficiency were carried out. Finally these experimental results were combined with an one - dimensional thermodynamic model. All experimental and theoretical results showed that B5 and B10 blends provide fuel economy in middle rpm’s when B5 gained efficiency increase as regards the reference diesel fuel. E5 blend increased the fuel consumption sharply in high rpm’s and E15 blend provided efficiency increase as regards the reference fuel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
