Abstract

In the dictionary system of Bulgarian language, a word functions with different types of meanings: nominative, figurative, phraseological, and last but not least, associated with specific ethnocultural background (mythological) values, which generally could be defined as symbolic. All these meanings are not cut off from each other and are in constant contact with each other, reflecting the semantic development, built by the relations in the so-called semantic triangle: object - concept - name. In so far as things (objects and events outside the people) are constantly changing, to the same extent the terms reflecting them, as used by the people being members of ethnocultural and social life of the community in which they live, are also undergoing changes which can not but affect on the semantic content of the words. For example, cases are specified where changes in the nominative meaning of the ancient word KOHe... (from 'end' to 'thread'), ie to the occurrence of homonyms that reflect zigzag semantic course of name where in phraseology and symbolism remain sensitive traces of the past. Combinations of names, each of which has its own symbolic meaning, as is the case with red thread, even more significantly increased the concentration of the Symbolic. As a rule in Bulgarian mythology, colours, and therefore their names are loaded with its own semantics: the green colour is a sign of youth and fertility, yellow - for maturity and wealth, white - purity, health, light, black has strongly negative semantics; red is a symbol synonymous with white. Hence the importance of the combination of red thread as a symbol of the most enduring folk virtues [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
