Abstract

The article studies the constitutional status of Pakistan's region of Gilgit Baltistan from 1947 to 1998. It looks at the differences between the British government and the State of Yasin, which resulted to the partition of the Indian sub-continent in 1947. Other topics covered include Pakistan's illegal take over of the region in 1950, and the role of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan in the settlement of the dispute between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region.
