Abstract

The article discusses responsibilities of botanic gardens in preventing the spread of alien invasive plant species through the cultivation of exotic plants in the gardens as of July 2011, with particular reference to the National Botanic Garden of Belgium (NBGB) and other northern European gardens. Topics discussed include reasons responsible for exotic plant invasions, role of hybridization in the evolution of invasive plants. Also mentioned are some invasive species such as Ebenaceae.
